About Me
My name is Nedje "Camille" Staco- Targete. I was born in Zaire in 1970 and came to Chicago in 1979, to Haitian parents (Debrosse et LeVasseur-Noel). My story is deeply rooted in both Haiti and Africa — two places that shaped my identity, my culture, and my pride.
Being Haitian born in Zaire has given me a unique connection to the world. I carry my Haitian heritage with honor, while also recognizing the beauty of the land where my life began.
I am proud to be part of the Haitian of Zaire story.

My Vision for Haiti
My vision for Haiti is to see her honored, not pitied.
I believe Haiti is more than struggle, poverty, or political pain. Haiti is beauty, dignity, history, courage, faith, language, culture, and legacy.
As a Haitian woman born in Zaire, now the Democratic Republic of Congo, I see Haiti through a wider lens. My story connects Haiti to Africa, reminding me that our identity is deep, powerful, and global.
My vision is to help elevate the image of Haiti — to celebrate her people, her women, her elegance, her resilience, and her contribution to the world.
I want Haiti to be remembered with pride, spoken of with respect, and represented with beauty. As a Haitian woman born in Zaire, I carry both Haiti and Africa in my story. My vision is to help elevate the image of Haiti and remind the world that our heritage is powerful, elegant, and worthy of pride. We do not need approval to be elevated.
