Dr. Carole Berotte Joseph is a distinguished educator, visionary leader, community activist and lifelong advocate for equitable education. With over four decades of experience, she has dedicated her career to advancing educational access and supporting underserved communities in the U.S. and Haiti. Born in Haiti and raised in New York City, Dr. Berotte Joseph made history in 2005 as the first person of Haitian descent to be appointed president of a U.S. college, holding leadership roles at MassBay Community College (MA) and Bronx Community College (NY). She has championed bilingual and multicultural education, particularly for Haitian-American and immigrant students.
A polyglot fluent in four languages, Dr. Berotte Joseph has been a driving force in cross-cultural understanding and global education initiatives. She served on the board of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and was one of twelve community college presidents selected by the U.S. State Department to promote the community college model internationally. Since 2011, she has contributed to educational collaboratives in Haiti, helping to strengthen the country’s educational system.
